"So you blog, ay?"
To my fellow coffee drinker, if you are now a follower of the Paynter Family Blog, welcome! This entry is special and specific to your question that I was unable to answer fully when asked.
To cut to the chase, I was ultimately asked the question, why do you have a blog, in a round about way. That's a good question. When Tripp was first born, I had a babysite that documented his growth for the first year. After moving to Baltimore and meeting new friends at Tripp's My Gym Saturday morning classes, a mom of paternal girl twins told me she blogged. I think my grimace mirrored the gentlemen's look when I heard "blog." What is a blog? According to Merriam-Webster, a blog is a web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer. Precisely. Six years ago it became an extension of Tripp's original Babysite that he "outgrew" when he turned one. I was apprehensive when starting the blog, but it blossomed into a hobby of mine.
You see, I don't scrapbook, I don't tweet or twit (I've actually never been on twitter.com for fear of what it may turn into!), the boys don't even have a baby book that I update year to year, and I haven't actually developed a picture in years. When we moved to Baltimore, it was a great way for family in Virginia, Alabama, Missisippi, North and South Carolina, Arizona, Colorado, and New York (am I missing any one on just the family side?) not failing to mention our close friends all over to keep up with our growing family.
But here is the God's honest truth. It can all be summed up with another picture I captured in a boutique in Santa Monica. I knew there was a reason I liked it when I saw it.
Sooooooo, if you haven't gathered from this post, I can be rather winded and drawn out at times. Some call it fluff, some call it fillers. I call it being Amy. Someone who loves to talk, has a lot to say, and when you want to turn her off or shut her down, just close up the computer! But again, welcome. Both new and old followers, family & friends out there welcome to the www (wild, wacky, and wonderful) paynterfamilyblogspot.com and may you return often.

If I had someone buy me a cup of coffee for every time I heard, "Cherish every minute, because before you know it..." and they add their experience of parenthood at the end, I would most likely be a millionaire. Well, I am living proof that I have not wished away one day (okay, maybe there was that one instance at Target over slime that I could remove from my memory bank completely) of the past six and a half years of being a mom. I do this blog for me. I find myself going back to various posts. For example, four years ago to when Tripp came down the stairs for Easter Sunday. Or a silly post of a two year old Tripp smelling my feet after a day of wearing Uggs or when he wanted to try my Wasabi pea yet I had to get the video camera to document it. I still get tears rolling down my face reading my own words of Baxter's delivery. They are my world. They rock it every single day. And who in the blogger handbook policy writers says that an extremely busy momma can't go back and hit the replay button? If anything, I want to hit the Pause button on life and enjoy it a little more instead of living in a world of fast forward.
I am here to document these boys and their lives so one day they can go back and be reminded of what Mary Poppins was like. I am here to embarass them when their girlfriend comes over and she wants to see what Bax looked like after I gave him pumpkin puree on 4th of July weekend. Can you say firecracker all over his skin? But most importantly, I am here for those sleepless nights when I ask myself, "Am I doing everything I possibly can for these two boys?" I go back day after day, week after week, month after month and smile. Sometimes cry, but only happy tears. Everything in this life happens for a reason, but blogs just make it easy for us to document it without having to cut fancy paper and glue it on a sheet and tape pictures in an overpriced odd shaped leather album that won't fit anywhere on my shelves!! By the time this blog is complete, my first cup of Pike's Place will be complete and ready to give me that first jolt of the day. By the way, the boys are my second jolt followed by the third in the travel mug.
